Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie is pleased to announce the return of Rencontres on Tour to the heart of its 12th edition. This one-of-a-kind event, which runs from September 3 to 5, 2021, will bring together visitors, artists and the local population for public get-togethers on the subject of creation: open-air screenings, discussions with the artists, guided visits to exhibitions, and more.
IN CARLETON-SUR-MER ON SEPTEMBER 3, 2021
The launch of Rencontres on Tour will take place on Friday, September 3, at 4:30 p.m. in the hall of Quai des arts in Carleton-sur-Mer. That will be followed by a visit to the exhibition L’espace du livre 2021 at the Gabrielle-Bernard-Dubé library and the closing of the exhibit Documentary Adrift by Nayla Dabaji (Montreal, Québec), in the presence of the artist, at the Vaste et Vague artist center.
After this, beginning at 8 p.m., there will be a screening of the work of the Toronto artist Dave Heath (1931-2016), who’s exhibition A Dialogue with Solitude is presented in Carleton-sur-Mer; Samuel Graveline (Montreal, Québec), in the presence of the artist, who will be exhibiting The Sweet Ends in Matapedia; and Yves Arcand (Matane, Québec), also in the presence of the artist, who is exhibiting Traces at the Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site in Pointe-à-la-Croix. The film Terrestres (Earthbound), by Normand Rajotte, will additionally be screened in the presence of the artist.
IN CARLETON-SUR-MER AND PASPÉBIAC ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2021
On Saturday, September 4, at 9:30 a.m. the public will be invited to drop by Parc des Horizons (municipal beach) in Carleton-sur-Mer for the unveiling of Résonances atemporelles (Resonance Outside of Time), a work in augmented reality complementary to the permanent mural Tragadigash, by Patrick Dionne and Miki Gingras (Montreal, Québec), in the presence of the artists.
At 4:30 p.m., the public is invited to the boardwalk (3e Rue) in Paspébiac for a visit of the exhibition Time’s out | Temps fluide by Marie-Claude Gendron (Montreal, Québec), in the presence of the artist. At 5:00 p.m. at the Paspébiac Cultural Center, there will be a visit of the video installation by Leila Zelli (Montreal, Québec), Why Should I Stop? Following this, the public will get to see screenings of the work of Marie-Claude Gendron; Claudine Doury (France), who is exhibiting Amur in Maria; Chloé Beaulac (Longueuil, Québec), who is exhibiting The places that inhabit us in New Richmond; Valeria Luongo (Italy/Great Britain), who is exhibiting A Sisterhood (a community of nuns) in Bonaventure; and Maude Arsenault (Montreal, Québec), who is exhibiting Fabric of self: folded and folded again, 2021 in Percé. Leila Zelli, Chloé Beaulac and Maude Arsenault will be there in person, whereas Valeria Luongo will be doing a presentation by videoconference.
IN GASPÉ ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2021
On Sunday, September 5, at 3:30 p.m., a guided visit of the exhibition As if the day never existed by Nele Van Canneyt (Belgium) will be held at the Birthplace of Canada historical site, near Horacio LeBouthillier house, in the town of Gaspé. At 8:00 p.m. the public is invited to an evening of projections plus a musical presentation. On view will be the work of Nele Van Canneyt; Bertrand Carrière (Longueuil, Québec), who is presenting Sound Mirrors in Petite-Vallée; Renaud Philippe (Québec City, Québec), who is exhibiting Isolation in Chandler; and Sven (Montreal, Québec), who is presenting Plongeons in Gaspé, to the sound of a musical performance by Spacey Koala (François Clavet). All the artists will be on hand, with the exception of Nele Van Canneyt, who will attend via a prerecorded video presentation.
