Résonances atemporelles

Patrick Dionne and Miki Gingras (Montréal, Québec) | patmiki.ca

The artist duo Patrick Dionne and Miki Gingras have been connecting at the local level since 1999 with a view to exhibiting stories related by and for people, enriched by testimonies, chronicles of ordinary, unofficial stories. These micro-narratives make up murals, photographic animations and photomontages meticulously prepared with the help of digital tools that allow the artists to explore different facets of image narration.

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Carleton-sur-Mer, in 2017, the two artists asked for the participation of the local population with regard to the oral transmission of stories that had contributed to the building of the town’s identity. Inspired by their encounters, they visually immortalized this community’s memory in the creation of the permanent mural Tracadigash, an immense, 25-square-meter photomontage composed of images from archives and from family albums. The duo also created the online platform tracadigash.carletonsurmer.com, with photographic-animation films and complementary content.

Finally, in September 2021, as part of Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie, Patrick Dionne and Miki Gingras in collaboration with interactive-media designers Thibault Landel and François Pallaud are launching Résonances atemporelles(Resonance Outside of Time). This work in augmented reality created on the basis of the permanent mural Tracadigash allows visitors to create a digital postcard.

To see Resonance Outside of Time and create a card, you have to:

  • take your cellphone to the mural Tracadigash, located in Parc des Horizons (on the wall of the Jean Coutu) in Carleton-sur-Mer;
  • connect to the Parc des Horizons public WiFi network;
  • scan the QR code found in front of the mural;
  • position your cellphone camera at a distance of about 2 meters from the mural in order to capture 5 words that that will go into creating your very own digital postcard.

In the form of an “exquisite corpse,” an algorithm relates the selected words to sentences found on vintage postcards associated with sequences from home movies made by vacationers. The result is a digital postcard that people can share with friends and family.
