Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie benefits from CALQ financial assistance in support of its mission

The management of Rencontres de la photographie is proud to announce that further to an application submitted to the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec at the start of the current year, the organization has been awarded a grant in the framework of the 2024-2025 “Soutien à la mission” program, aid subject to renewal for three years.

More precisely, this assistance is designed to support the logistics of the various activities of the organization, including Rencontres on Tour. That weekend of activities, open to the public, brings together national and international artists on a visit to some of the summer exhibit sites, which are spread over the Gaspé Peninsula.

The subsidy will help contribute to the higher transportation costs for guest artists or artistic partners, given the Gaspé’s geographic situation.

In return, the organization has pledged to adopt a sustainable-development action plan that includes an eco-responsible component by 2027-2028, and to produce data with regard to its carbon footprint.

Commented Claude Goulet, the founder and director of Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie, “We’re very grateful for this assistance. Rencontres builds bridges between local artists and artists from Europe and elsewhere, who gather each year in the Gaspé Peninsula, in the heart of its sublime landscapes, its residents and its visitors. This grant will support our mission, which has been unfolding for 15 years now by way of a number of projects, including our summer exhibitions, artist residencies, photographic missions in the Québec region, the release of photobooks, and other events, all of them centered around human encounters and exchanges about artistic creation in the visual arts.”
