In collaboration with our partner, the Vaste et Vague artist centre, the exhibition Beneath the Ashes by Charles-Frédérick Ouellet will be presented from May 15 to 18, as part of the Carleton-sur-Mer International Journalism Festival.
The festival aims to address today’s pressing questions and recent political upheavals, with the help of journalists, historians, philosophers, photographers, and engaged citizens from around the world.
A vernissage with the artist in attendance will be held at the festival’s opening on May 15 at 4:00 p.m. (free admission).
Afterward, the exhibition will remain open for the duration of the festival, through May 18.
Opening hours and admission rates at Vaste et Vague artist centre.
Beneath the Ashes
In this exhibition, photographer Charles-Frédérick Ouellet explores two territories in conflict. He brings us to the frontlines of climate change, searching for scenes that reflect the scale of this uncontrollable natural phenomenon—for which he received the 2024 World Press Photo award—and to Ukraine, a land where people are fighting for their survival.
Through these two bodies of work, the photographer reflects on a state of exhaustion—both of nature and of humanity—facing the conflicts and contradictions of our time.
This project is presented jointly by Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie, the Carleton-sur-Mer International Journalism Festival, and in collaboration with the Vaste et Vague artist centre.
