Start of exhibitions and launch of 11 podcasts

The exhibitions and installations of the 12th Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie are now taking place in 12 municipalities, towns and national parks on the peninsula, devoted to the theme Conversations. Presented for the most part in the out-of-doors, they are displaying the work of 15 artists from Québec and elsewhere in the world until September 30, 2021.

Rencontres is innovating this year by presenting a series of podcasts to complement certain exhibits or installations. Photo Gaspésie rencontres – The Podcast offers visitors a way of entering into the world of a good number of the artists taking part in this 12th edition of the event. “On 11 exhibition sites we’ve installed a sign with a QR code that visitors can scan with their smartphones and that leads to the podcasts,” explains the executive and artistic director of Rencontres, Claude Goulet. “Each episode allows listeners to hear an artist talk about his or her approach and work.”

All the podcasts, lasting about eight minutes each, are enlivened by an original musical story composed by a musician from the region. Produced by Maïté Samuel-Leduc, from the town of Gaspé, the podcasts make it possible to hear music by François-Pierre Poirier, Phile (Philippe Patenaude), Gaëtan Essiambre, Justine Fournier, Juan Sebastián Larobina, the Trames collective (Guillaume Campion and Guillaume Côté), Monsieur Nokturn (Olivier Brien), Éric Dion, Richard Dunn, Spacey Koala (François Clavet) and Alex Pelletier.
