HOBO is a 54-minute film.
The term HOBO is borrowed from American culture. In the last century, it referred to clandestine travelers who hopped freight trains to move from city to city looking for seasonal work. They invented a form of writing, the HoBo code, traces of which – still legible – served to inform other itinerants about the particular features of a place. That title and the use of soliloquies become a metaphor for a visual digression that points towards a reflection on current migration and nomadism – a word of silence delivered while passing through forbidden places.
The pace at which this film unfolds has more to do with photography than moviemaking. Shots are often very slow, and require prolonged observation. Everything was filmed in existing spaces or spaces demolished since the visual captures, most of them prohibited.
