Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie will officially open on July 15. With two weeks to go before the launch, exhibition installations are already underway across the region.
In that context, sound artist Taïssia Froidure – who completed a creative residency in the Gaspé Peninsula in 2024 via a partnership with Diaphane, pôle photographique en Hauts-de-France – is currently in the Baie-des-Chaleurs to install her work. Her immersive exhibition is presented at the Pointe Tracadigash lighthouse in Carleton-sur-Mer and also features a large-format photographic installation by Italian artist Alessandra Calò.
Designed on the basis of local residents’ testimonies, the installation offers a sensitive and poetic listening experience. Between calls from the foghorn, visitors are invited to pause and listen closely, catching the subtle dialogue of slumbering giants who seem to exchange fragments of stories. These narratives, collected nearby, evoke music, the idea of an eldorado, fishing, memory, and a deep connection to the land – one that is defended, left behind, or rediscovered.
Recently renovated by the town of Carleton-sur-Mer, the lighthouse is an emblematic part of the local heritage. Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie is proud to activate this unique and historically rich site as part of its summer program.
The exhibition will be open to the public starting July 15. Taïssia Froidure will return to the Gaspé from August 20 to 22 to meet with the public as part of Rencontres on Tour.
→ About the artist
Taïssia Froidure is a sound artist from France. On French radio she produces shows and podcasts on a broad range of topics. Outside the studio she conjures up sound pieces in collaboration with the residents of villages she passes through, recording all the sounds on site and composing music using the instruments, sheet music and musicians she finds there.
This exhibition is the result of a partnership with Diaphane, pôle photographique en Hauts-de-France.
