Isabelle Gagné’s creation residency began during the 8th edition of Rencontres by way of the deployment of the stratotype.ca platform and its Web robot [Bot] Stratotype digital—ien, which recomposes in random fashion pictures of the Québec landscape collected from ordinary people. This autonomous bot randomly recomposes pictures of the Québec landscape. Its function is to transform photos, either taken by myself or collected from ordinary people in the course of one year. The images thus modified will create unusual visual occurrences of the Québec region on the Web and on search engines, and will generate a new layer of digital data until now non-existent on the Web. The gathering of photos will stretch over a year and will finish in May 2018 during the second phase of the artist’s residency in the Gaspé, after which the project will be the subject of an exhibit at Rencontres in the summer of 2018.

Anne-Marie Proulx (Québec City, Québec)
Anne-Marie Proulx creates poetic worlds located between the real and the imaginary, history and myth. Her works present themselves as areas of freedom, open to imaginings, where the real comprises a starting point for arriving at new narrative evocations. In residence in the Gaspé, she’ll make her way through her territory and her community, setting out to meet women who are present there and who carry in them their present history, as much as the traces that accumulate through the passage of time and communities.
Dérive François Quévillon (Montreal, Québec)
During his residency Meteors – The Collection, François Quévillon will be focusing on geological and environmental features in the Gaspé. In continuation of Dérive (2010) and his residency in Gros Morne National Park in 2017, he will be capturing landscape fragments through photogrammetry, a method that makes determination of geospatial data possible on the basis of photographs. He will address the region through an approach sensitive to the esthetic, poetic and conceptual dimensions of a technique that appeared early in the history of photographic processes by reflecting on the nature of images in the digital era.
