The festival officially began on July 15, but some projects come to life on different dates. This is notably the case for North End<\/em>, an exhibition by French photographer G\u00e9raldine Lay<\/a>, which opens this week. Presented at the Vaste et Vague artist center<\/a>, the exhibition will run from July 25 to August 23.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2009, the P\u00f4le Photographique Diaphane<\/a> invited me to take part in the \u201cDestinations Europe\u201d project, and I chose to explore Glasgow. Fascinated by post-industrial regions<\/strong> ravaged by Thatcherism<\/strong>, I have returned to the northwest of the United Kingdom every year since. In 2015, as a winner of the Institut fran\u00e7ais\u2019s \u201cHors les Murs\u201d program, I set out to conclude this series.\u00a0North End<\/em>\u00a0blends portraits and urban landscapes, capturing the scenery of old Europe<\/strong> in bursts of light and color<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

G\u00e9raldine Lay, born in 1972 in M\u00e2con, lives in Arles. A graduate of the \u00c9cole Nationale de la Photographie in 1997, she also works at \u00c9ditions Actes Sud<\/strong> as a photography editor. Her work is represented by the Sit Down gallery<\/strong> in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For over 10 years, Rencontres and Diaphane, p\u00f4le photographique en Hauts-de-France<\/strong>, have been developing an international platform for artistic exchange<\/strong>. This partnership fosters exploration and international dissemination through a program of reciprocal residencies and exhibitions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supported by the Fonds Franco-Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois pour la coop\u00e9ration d\u00e9centralis\u00e9e (FFQCD) through biennial calls for projects, this initiative has enabled around fifteen artists<\/strong> \u2013photographers and writers \u2013 to be hosted on both sides of the Atlantic. These residencies have led to numerous original creations<\/strong>, including exhibitions, journals and collective publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this collaboration, Rencontres is welcoming artist Ta\u00efssia Froidure<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In the fall of 2026<\/strong>, French photojournalist Victorine Alisse<\/a> will, in turn, be hosted in the Gasp\u00e9 Peninsula. That \u00a0residency, supported by the Institut fran\u00e7ais and the Hauts-de-France Region, will allow her to develop a new project in the region, which will be presented during the 18th edition of Rencontres in 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This long-standing partnership between France and Qu\u00e9bec reflects a shared commitment<\/strong> to supporting artist mobility, contemporary creation<\/strong> and intercultural exchange.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
